TELEVISION DELIVERS PEOPLE
by Richard Serra & Carlota Fay Schoolman (1973)
Video Tape (colour, sound, 6 minutes)
Produced in collaboration with Carlotta Schoolman, Richard Serra's 1973 video "Television Delivers People" functions as a critique of broadcast television and mass advertisement. With scrolling text, accompagnied by elevator music, Serra and Schoolman critizise the television medium as an instrument of social control, which, disguised as entertainment, reinforces the power structures of those who profit from it: the corporations. A critique of the capitalist system way ahead of its time.
